One Uninsured American
My test results weren’t good. It’s
probably cancer, my surgeon said.
I need surgery for a more in-depth biopsy. That’s scheduled for later this
month.
Unlike the United States, I am so grateful for the affordable and excellent
healthcare here in Costa Rica. I am a 3-4 hour drive (across a mountain range)
to the hospital in San Jose from my home on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. It’s
a private modern facility. CIMA Hospital is affiliated with Baylor University in
Texas.
My best friend Peggy is here with me and has been like a white tornado taking
care of my every need. Everyone should be as lucky to have a friend like her. I
took a picture of Peggy and two Costa Rican friends (more like sons). Pollo, on
the left is married to a French girl, Lara, and they have a 3 month old girl
name Emma (see pic below). Pollo is a metal artisan. Marshall is living in the
states working on his degree in nuclear technology.
My other good friend, Ron the Kentucky expat, Vietnam Vet helicopter pilot and
ex-paramedic can fix anything and I mean anything. He has helped me tremendously
since Peggy and I arrived.
Saffron, my neighbor, a tall and tattooed Samoan-American, got my phone line
internet access set up and has done a million little things to help.
No wonder Costa Rica’s motto is, Pura Vida.
Today, I’ll be taking the day off. You know All Hat No Cattle is my passion and
I’ll return tomorrow. I just need some time to take all this in.
Peace,
Lisa
