There have been many hundreds of varied rulings in the lower courts on when the use of Taser stun guns by the police amounts to excessive force, and sooner or later the Supreme Court will have to bring order to this area of the law. Next week, the justices are scheduled to decide whether to hear an appeal from three Seattle police officers who say they are worried about the future of what they call “a useful pain technique.”… The case involves Malaika Brooks, who was seven months pregnant and driving her 11-year-old son to school in Seattle when she was pulled over for speeding…“I have to go to the bathroom,” she said. “I am pregnant. I’m less than 60 days from having my baby.”

Those are my plans. I agree with you about Alabama. When I was last in Alabama I spoke with the police chief of a neighboring city. I told him about my husband having me arrested and asked what he would have done if he were the responding officer. He was an award winning investigative journalist. He nailed Mafia goons, exposed salacious corruption at a major US Port and other great articles. Brilliant man. Just a note, carpenter ants are a symptom, not a disease. They do not cause problems in the wood, they show you that a problems could easily exist. You need to have a human type carpenter check your wall studs for dryrot.

Hopefully, what you have is an inspection team.

My cabina (a one room cabin) is rustico or open air. Ants here are very aggressive, as are many other frightening insects, such as; the giant prehistoric looking grasshopper with sharp barbs on its legs, scorpions and oh, giant frogs/toads? that will chase you. I should also mention the small yellow snake that causes death in under 5 seconds after you’re bitten. To keep everything in check is vigilance. Those ants swarmed….all new babies with wings. They probably moved in my nightstand after the rainy season began a few weeks ago and hatched when I was in court. I’ve dealt with worse in the states…rattlesnakes!

Lisa, I don’t know if you remember me. I rented from you when you started your chemotherapy. I had a dog named BoBo. I have followed your website since I met you and love it. I visit Junquillal yearly. I live in the Central Valley, San Ramon.

I know Dave. Asshole describes him.

He has it out for Tica women. Last year I heard him warn a group of young gringo surfers not to get a Tica pregnant because the US will make you pay child support, he rambled all Ticas want is the money from gringos, yadda yadda yadda… I saw him there at Iguanazul. I walked out with my Tica wife because she was getting pissed. I also saw him get in a political shouting match at another local bar. Both times he was pounding down well drinks.

I now own a vacay condo in Tamarindo and haven’t seen him since last year.

You have your hands full. But protect yourself, lock all doors. The judge gave you good advice. Dave is a bully.

I remember you well, Joe. It is so good to hear from you. I hope your cancer stays in remission. I just returned from Tamarindo. Great choice for your surfing. It is so lively there.

Geesh, Dave is still saying that about Ticas? Doesn’t surprise me. He’s been retelling that story there for almost a decade, the Tico bartenders must be sick of it. I know they are. One bartender told me years ago that they only tolerated Dave because they get a guaranteed gratuity for each drink they pour him….which are many.

I haven’t been in a bar with him since 2007. That was the last time he humiliated me in public, other than having me falsely arrested last year. sigh

Dave knows women are protected here. He knows the laws better than I do. Yet, he continues to be defiant.

Joe, maybe we’ll cross paths in Hospital Mexico when I can gather enough dinero to go to San Jose, but first I must leave the country for 72 hours to fulfill my visa requirements before June…more dinero to gather on top of my lawyer’s fees.

40% of West Virginia Democrats Voted for an Inmate Instead of Obama

Barack Obama was not the only Democrat on the ballot on Tuesday in West Virginia’s Democratic Presidential Primary. Keith Judd – also known as Inmate No. 11593-051 at the Federal Correctional Institution in Texarkana, Texas – was running against him.

Judd, who is serving out a 17.5 year sentence for extortion, currently has received 40 percent of the vote, with 83 percent of precincts reporting, according to The Associated Press. Obama currently has received 60 percent of the vote.

My Day In Court

I now fully appreciate and understand Bob Marley’s song, “Get Up, Stand Up”

Court went well. Quite well.

I met with the judge and an interpreter in her office. Her first question was about my health and that she noticed I looked better since our last meeting. She said she was going to keep the restraining order on my husband until December and gave me a July 6 meeting with her again. She then asked me if I was prepared in case my husband attacked me again. She gave me detailed instructions on how to safeguard myself and asked if anyone lived close to me. I told her I live next to a family in a cabina about the size of her office and they have a pit bull guard dog.

She then went on to say that I have many civil rights here in Costa Rica and that I am entitled to live in the style I am accustomed to, not a room. She said I must go to another court to execute these civil rights. My husband is going to have to compensate me or he will be arrested.

After court my lawyer Carlos made a curious comment about my husband and his female lawyer who were sitting close by waiting for me to leave the judge’s office. He said, “I don’t know your husband’s girlfriend.” I turned to my friend, Frank and asked what Carlos meant, as Carlos speaks limited English. He said Carlos is very active and popular in the courthouse and he has never seen your husband’s lawyer before and she must be in love not to advise him to pay up before Costa Rica forces him to pay you. His lawyer may not know that you are living “rustico” (simple life) and Dave is living on a half million dollar income producing property. Dave has probably filled her poor head with who knows what.

If you have Google Earth…latitude 10°10’38.87″N longitude 85°48’53.33″W is the location of the property.

I was shocked, shocked I say, at Dave’s appearance. He had shoulder length chlorine streaked hair and mustache, sunburned face, dirty sneakers, baggy jeans as he looked 30 lbs underweight lost in a wrinkled flowered shirt. He looked like the typical gringo alcoholic. He knows better than dressing that way in court. He wore his hair like Mike Ditka, the old Chicago Bear’s coach during our marriage.

I don’t know what the judge said to my husband when she met with him but it must not have been good.

Carlos gave me a ride home after court as Frank’s car broke down. We had a very interesting conversation. I asked Carlos what the spirit of the law was concerning women’s rights. Carlos said flatly …women are the backbone of Costa Rica. Frank chimed in and said, that if it weren’t for women men wouldn’t be here and Carlos laughed and said “Exactly”.

I love being around real men…hombres.

Frank went on to ask Carlos if my husband had called the police on me in Costa Rica as he did in Florida what would have happened. Carlos said they would have removed him from the home. He went on to say I could have stabbed him and still had him removed. Women are considered the weaker sex (Hey Floriduh lookee here) because they are weaker, physically and financially. Women unquestionably have the right to defend themselves against a man twice their size, as in my case.

Carlos also added it is considered shameful to keep me from my cancer care as he did in the states and here in Costa Rica by refusing to give me my medical records and belongings. He said Costa Rica wants me to live, she treated me for cancer and now she is going to make sure I am treated with the dignity and respect that I deserve.

I fought for my rights in Florida and was treated like a murderer. Here in Costa Rica I am treated with great respect and have been in the decade I have owned property here and my beach store. I love this country and told the judge that in no uncertain terms.

After the long drive home, I thanked Carlos for his sage advice and expressed how happy I was that he was my lawyer. He laughed and said that he would fight for my rights till he died with his shoes on.

I gave him a big hug and returned to my room.

I love my lawyers here and in the states.

I must come up with another $300 for Carlos to go to court for me. After Carlos dropped me off, I checked my email and found that a lovely gentleman Robert had donated $100. Robert said it was to fight “my asshole husband”. That was the icing on the cake the judge had handed me. Thank you Robert.

Completely unknown to me a giant red ant swarm had taken over my night stand while I was in court. I fought for my rights against those giant ants and about 3 hours later they were all cleared out. I was so spent when Frank, who also sells fish, came over and said, “Hey, Lisa, you want lobster tails for dinner to celebrate?”

Yet another reason why I love this country and it’s people.

And a lovely ending to a hopeful day.
