Mesa Councilman Tom Rawles is under 24-hour police protection after receiving threats in newspaper online chats, blogs and in a phone call for refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.
Police are assessing the threats that came after Rawles refused to stand for the Pledge to protest U.S. involvement in the Iraq war. He said he will not stand until U.S. troops come home or his term ends, on Dec. 31, 2008. …………….
