State pressured to do better job of finding missing children

Politicians and child advocates called on the governor and state officials to immediately attempt to find more than 500 children who are missing from Florida's child welfare system.

In a story published Sunday, the Sun-Sentinel detailed how reporters, in a matter of weeks, found nine of 24 South Florida children that the Department of Children & Families had been unable to locate for as long as eight years.

Beleaguered DCF chief Kearney quits

TALLAHASSEE -- Embattled Department of Children & Families Secretary Kathleen Kearney resigned Tuesday, four months after the case of a missing 5-year-old girl put the department under scrutiny.

Gov. Jeb Bush immediately accepted the resignation, which is effective Sept. 3.
