In Courtroom, Laughter at Fox and a Victory for Al Franken
By SUSAN SAULNY - NY TIMES

A federal judge in Manhattan told Fox News yesterday that it had to learn how to take a joke. Then he rejected the network's request for an injunction to block the satirist Al Franken from using the words "fair and balanced" on the cover of his book, "Lies, and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right."

No Flinching in War on Terror, Bush Vows
Guardian, UK - 8-23-03

... Bush returned to his Texas ranch Friday night after a two-day tour through the Pacific Northwest. There, where he was often greeted by scores of protesters, the president added over $2.4 million to his already fattened re-election campaign account, and pitched his policies on salmon restoration and wildfire prevention.

Bush must be bummed having his every other month vacation  interrupted by so many events.  But just as Poppy taught him, just golf and fundraise to get those annoying disturbances off your mind.  And Dubya sure follows Poppy's advice to the tee.

Online phenomenon as website proves a big hit

BY ALISON HARDIE

THE website accompanying Lord Hutton’s inquiry is proving an online phenomenon - with well over a quarter of a million pages being downloaded every day.

Figures show that some 16,800 visitors are flocking to the online account of the trial daily and downloading an average of 17 pages of text before logging off.

The popularity is thought to stem from Lord Hutton’s decision to ban television cameras from the inquiry, but to make each confidential e-mail, letter and memo available on the internet within hours of being shown in the court.

Set up by the Department of Constitutional Affairs, which now includes the functions of the Scotland Office, the site - www.the-hutton-inquiry.org.uk  - displays more than 400 documents and e-mails revealing the tensions inside No 10. Its popularity has more than doubled since Lord Hutton stated hearing witnesses on Monday last week....

WOULD YOU PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO 'HIS' HONOR"?

JOE,
WHENEVER YOU AND RUSH AND JEB AND ALLAN BENSE GET THROUGH WITH YOUR WESSON PARTY WITH THE BLIND SHEEP OF FLORIDA, WOULD YA'LL CHANGE YOUR CHIPPENDALES G-STRINGS (now that in itself is a sick thought!) INTO SOMETHING MORE PROPER TO GIVE THE ILLUSION OF NOT SCREWING US AND EXPLAIN EXACTLY WHAT IT IS YOU ARE CONSERVING? CERTAINLY ISN'T MONEY OR THE ENVIRONMENT OR PUBLIC SECURITY AND WELFARE OR EDUCATION OR HUMAN COMPASSION FOR YOUR FELLOW MAN OR THE PRISTINE FLORIDA WHERE I WAS REARED.

William

Dear William,

Joe Scab, Rush, Jeb and Allan in a g-string?  Oh Lord, that is an obscene visual.  Ewww.  But their obscenity extends exactly to where you described so eloquently.  I'm surprised Florida hasn't  been attacked by terrorists yet --oh wait, we already have been, by these compassionate conservatives conserving everything for themselves.

Thanks for writing.  And by the way, Joe and his friends read this website. Believe me. He'll get your message.

SUBJECT: War on Drugs

Great site. Very entertaining and enlightening.

I have a comment on the so-called "War on Drugs".

I recently became aware that it is possible to purchase controlled substances such as Vicodin, Percodan, Percocet and others over the internet without a prescription from your doctor or even letting him or her know you are doing so. These internet pharmacies do a superficial questionnaire, or a phone consultation by an MD (for which they charge). I doubt that many patients can give an adequate and complete medical history. This seems to me to be a risky that situation that leads to supplying drugs for illegitimate purposes.

My view is that the "War on drugs" is simply the DEA full employment initiative and has little to do with the distribution of drugs of abuse. It focuses on marijuana which many people, including health care professionals, feel should be legalized. The internet distribution of federally controlled substances without an ongoing medical relationship with a patient seems contradictory. Could it be that these physicians, pharmacists and pharmaceutical manufacturers tend to be loyal benefactors to politicians in both parties? Could it be that government control of these drugs keeps the prices artificially high?

Just more hypocrisy from Washington.

Bob Kemmer

I often receive spam about getting these drugs over the Internet and wondered how could this be? You answered my question--"Could it be that these physicians, pharmacists and pharmaceutical manufacturers tend to be loyal benefactors to politicians in both parties?  " I think you hit the nail on the head.

I've always wondered why the government does not regulate these "natural drugs" you buy at health food stores.  I remember a few years ago on C-SPAN watching Orrin Hatch (I think it was Hatch, if not, maybe one of our fabulous readers would know who) owned one of these natural drug companies--and was sickened by the fact that such a powerful politician could endanger people by not checking what the heck are contained in these so-called natural drugs.

Thanks for writing and glad you like our site.

Katherine Harris and Governor Jeb Bush celebrate

his brother's victory in Florida, again.

                                      By Libby R.L. Media

Tallahassee, Fla. -- Katherine Harris, Citrus Heiress, millionairess and Jeb

Bush's Secretary of State celebrated today by exchanging gifts.  Ms. Harris gave

Gov. Bush a new tie she designed and Gov. Bush gave her a Carmen Miranda hat

and some Sangria. Gov. Bush admits being partial to Latino customs and food.

I did this toon in December 2000.  It just seemed appropriate to rerun today. I just love Harris' hat and Jeb's tie.

"When the Republicans ran the Congress and Clinton was in the White House, there was no accusation too small for them to pursue, now that President Bush is in power, there's no scandal so large that they have any interest in examining it."
