White House photo sparks protest
A White House photographer was allowed to take and widely distribute a photo from the ceremony Tuesday for the return of the remains of 30 American troops killed in a weekend helicopter crash in Afghanistan despite the Pentagon's claim that any public depiction of the scene would violate the wishes of bereaved families.

GOP debate: Hitting hard at each other _ and Obama

Judge Won't Order Inquiry Over Psychologist's Role in Guantánamo

New York State cannot be forced to investigate a psychologist accused by a human rights organization of overseeing coercive interrogation tactics at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, a judge in Manhattan ruled on Thursday

The White House released a single dignified photo of a very important ceremony for our war heroes. Why in the world would the Pentagon complain?

"Obama is going to use 'weird' as code for 'Mormon.' I am really starting to respect that urban, rhythmic, Socialist, Kenyan secret Muslim." –Stephen Colbert, on the Obama campaign's apparent plan to target Mitt Romney as "weird"

"There have been huge riots in England the past couple of days. People are fighting, throwing rocks, smashing windows. And they're doing it the hard way, without a soccer game." –Jay Leno

The Missionary Position

The Bible tells wives to be submissive to their husbands. If she were president, would that apply to Michele Bachmann?

In Thursday's Republican debate in Iowa, the Minnesota congresswoman was asked if she would be submissive to her husband.

"Sarah Palin's daughter-in-law just gave birth three months after getting married, and thus won the annual Palin Almost Abstinent Award." –Jay Leno

MittWit Romney

Out on the campaign trail today in Iowa, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney fended off a feisty crowd as he voiced his somewhat controversial legal view that corporations are people just like you and me. "Corporations are people, my friend" he said to the sound of booming guffaws.

Rock-The-Voter News

"Levi Johnston, who got Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol pregnant, has a sister Mercede, who just posed for 'Playboy' and said some very unflattering things about the Palins. She said Track Palin, who she dated, used cocaine and oxycodone, that Sarah Palin forced him to go into the military to protect herself, and that if Palin became President she'd have a mental breakdown. Then the photographer asked her to turn a little so he could get both nipples." –Jimmy Kimmel

Subject: Response to that emailer "wierd"

Lisa,

Shame on you for helping people with PTSD! Or finding like minded people who LOVE your humor (especially your toons) and are willing to fund you! How dare you want me to know how you fought tragedy in your life, including giving us medical updates on your cancer care. Where the hell do you think you are? In America?

Sadly so, all sarcasm put aside now, this country, as you stated the other day, has become callous. And that emailer is just reflective of the greed that has brought this country to its knees.

We're all in this together, Lisa, my economic woes aren't only temporarily erased when I read ahnc but my woes are so much smaller than yours that you inspire me. I just wanted you to know that and hope you know how many people, thousands, i'm sure, that feel just as I do, my wife, all my in-laws-her in-laws and my dozens of friends at work do when we read ahnc.

Keep the faith, baby.

Charles

"They say the price of gas could soon be under $3 a gallon. Do you know what that means? You can now afford to drive by the house you used to live in, go by the job you used to have, and go see the bank where you used to have money." –Jay Leno

Smart Plane?

An unmanned hypersonic glider developed for U.S. defense research into super-fast global strike capability was launched atop a rocket early Thursday but contact was lost after the experimental craft began flying on its own, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency said...Initial indications are that the aircraft impacted the Pacific Ocean along the planned flight path."i

Business News

"Great day today! Obama didn't speak. Congress didn't act. Experts on vacation. And the Dow soared 400 points. There's a lesson in there." -Jay Leno

Apple Bytes Back

Apple has pulled its iTunes store from the Christian Values Network due to what it sees as the network's contributions to controversial groups, as tech companies tread carefully in the midst of complicated social issues.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company removed iTunes from the list of stores on CVN.org after the company discovered CVN had made contributions to what the Southern Poverty Law Center deemed "active hate groups."

Odd News

This breathtaking image of an underwater maze inside a glacier was taken by an intrepid explorer in freezing temperatures. Photographer Franco Banfi regularly braves sub-zero temperatures to dive under thick ice and capture remarkable pictures at considerable risk to his life. The glaciers create extraordinary underwater caves and passages due to changes in temperature between the summer and winter months. Photo: FRANCO BANFI

I wish you all a peaceful weekend.
