The-World-Will-Be-A-Safer-Place-Without Saddam
U.S. investigators are trying to understand how the Times Square bomber took numerous trips back and forth to Pakistan even though the guy’s name was on the no-fly list. Know what I think happened? I think the government confused the no-fly list with the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” list.- Jay Leno
Obama: Escalation Before De-escalation
The war
in Afghanistan will get worse before it gets better, President Barack Obama said
Wednesday, but he declared his plan to begin withdrawing U.S. forces next year
remains on track.
"What I've tried to emphasize is the fact that there is going to be some hard
fighting over the next several months," Obama said at a White House news
conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. He spoke as the U.S.-led foreign
army in Afghanistan gets ready for a push into the Taliban's birthplace in
Kandahar Province. The campaign for Kandahar, which is to begin in earnest in
June,
is expected to be among the bloodiest of the nearly nine-year-old war.

Disturbing News

War On Drugs Side Effect
Who should we blame for
Arizona’s anti-immigrant law? Governor Jan Brewer, who signed the thing. The Tea
Parties, which have dragged our politics to the right. And the U.S. Congress,
which has gone three years without acting on immigration reform. But, today,
let’s train our animus on a politician who has thus far escaped much scrutiny:
Felipe Calderon, the president of Mexico.
Calderon’s war on drugs, now wobbling into its fourth year,
helped turn the U.S.-Mexico border into a bloody slaughterhouse, complete with
kidnappings, torture, and beheadings. You can draw a straight line between
the border’s climate of terror and the political opportunism in Arizona.

I Would Think Wall Street Would Be More Upset About This
SEC Chairwoman Mary Schapiro said her agency has yet to pinpoint the reason for the sell-off that sent the Dow Jones industrial average down nearly 1,000 points in less than half an hour, stunning Wall Street and Washington....The agency’s review found no evidence of terrorist activity or computer hacking. There also was no evidence “that this was done in any kind of a malicious way,” Schapiro told the House Financial Services subcommittee on capital markets.

This NASA
image released on May 4, 2010 from the European Space Agency's Herschel Space
Observatory shows the cloud associated with the Rosette Nebula, a stellar
nursery about 5,000 light-years from Earth. The formation of new stars in
galaxies like the Milky Way has declined five-fold in the last three billion
years, initial findings of the European Space Agency's Herschel telescope
showed.
