The three-yearly OECD Programme for
International Student Assessment (PISA) report, which compares the knowledge
and skills of 15-year-olds in 70 countries around the world, ranked the
United States 14th out of 34 OECD countries for reading skills, 17th for
science and a below-average 25th for mathematics. |

President Barack Obama now
has to lobby fellow Democrats to vote for a bill he considers crucial —
legislation that would retain existing tax rates for the middle class and
stretch the safety net for the jobless.

hi, Lisa,
hope you're doing great. had to put in my two cents about Obama and the tax cut
situation. rather than 'caving,' what he did was pay the ransom! the rethugs
held this country's poor and unemployed hostage in order to get the tax breaks
for their rich cronies extended. if Obama hadn't done what he did, millions
would be losing their unemployment. Democrats, for the most part, are decent
people who care about the American people, and sometimes their decency makes
them easy prey for the rethugs and their filthy tactics. when will folks learn
not to vote for them? how many times to these crooks have to kick the average
people in the teeth before they learn who is actually on their side? Obama is a
pragmatist. he knew it was this or nothing. i feel bad for him that he had to do
this, but the American people let him down voting so many rethugs into office.
what do they expect??? getting off my soapbox now. :-)

I am doing fine. The less I say about my health the better I feel. lol
I hear you about Obama and I think he is doing the best job anyone could do after being handed the mess Bush and the Republicans left, but...he broke his campaign promise to the tune of $700+ billion dollars to give tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans. Now we will be $700+ billion further in debt.
Nearly 60% of Americans are against the tax cuts for the wealthy. Obama had the country on his side and he chose to abandon that.
In 1995 President Bill Clinton stood up to Newt Gingrich and the Republicans who tried to shut most of the government down, not just once but twice. Their plan backfired. Public opinion favored the president. The icing on the cake was when Gingrich inserted his large reptilian foot into his mouth complaining that the president made him sit in the back of Air Force One. Clinton's polls soared after that.
Gingrich got even though, a few years later he led the impeachment of President Clinton.
Obama is not watching his back in my humble opinion.
He had 60% of the American public on his side to ax tax cuts for the rich and he threw it away along with $700+ billion dollars.
I seriously doubt the Republicans will show any gratitude to Obama.
I'm just waiting for their next attack on Obama.

launch - contrail" off the southern cal coast has not been mentioned. This one
is pretty strange and all mainstream media has "put the pillow over its head".

I did mention the "missile" story twice, once on Nov. 9 and 10th. The last I heard was that the Pentagon said it was a jet contrail optical illusion. I hope they are right.
My take on the missile incident is about the same as my take on most of the "mainstream" media. The media is more interested in infotainment than actual news.
Probably some military bozo probably pushed the wrong button. Because if it was a terrorist we would have been hit.
And maybe we will be.
